Total Style Achieved on a Teensy Budget

The December 2009 issue of Architectural Digest inspired my use of the outdoor bean bag. The uber clothing designer Donna Karan shared her island get away with the magazine and the photos were astounding. Instantly, the feel of a true retreat comes through the pages, and a longing to replicate the design enveloped me. Of course, I was only able to do the reproduction on a tight budget, but I did my best nonetheless.

What I took away from the style was to be repetitive with colour, texture and shape. What was done inside, was mirrored outside. The majorly expensive wood based seats were substituted with designer bean bags. I believe this truly worked well because each of the original chairs were toped with overstuffed gorgeous material cushions. To ensure that I would get the most for my money I purchased weather resistant models for the exterior areas. I am so thankful to have seen that cover story, and I am overjoyed with the result.
