I can remember being seated on my outdoor bean bag in the garden one lazy Sunday when I first read about the plans to make the musical Nine into a movie. Initially, I thought oh no, another wonderful show beaten down by the flat acting of this years popular starlets, along with their hokey lip syncing. Since Madonna was featured in Evita, I have held mixed emotions about big screen actresses coming on strong in original stage productions made into films. Sometimes the outcome is a smashing success, but others, it simply diminishes the works altogether. To be quite honest, I also am torn over making these jewels so mainstream. In a way, they are special because they are not so easily accessible. Once they are shown on the big screen, DVD and every cable network out there, they loose some of their magic no matter what the quality.

While resting on my outdoor bean bag Sunday, I was reading up on the star of my favourite show Hugh Laurie. The program House M.D. did not capture my interest within the first episode that I watched, but more or less grew on me over time. Maybe it was because my boyfriend was never really into the program Medium and I subconsciously thought I would pay him back by not taking to House, which he adores.
Silly, I know, but as the first season progressed I started to take an interest in the characters. I must admit I never stopped screaming at the television about how scantily dressed Cuddy was or how bland Foreman comes across. However, I did take a liking to the Cameron and Chase romance. But all in all, I am not sure that the actors are worth what they are getting paid for each episode.

The December 2009 issue of Architectural Digest inspired my use of the outdoor bean bag. The uber clothing designer Donna Karan shared her island get away with the magazine and the photos were astounding. Instantly, the feel of a true retreat comes through the pages, and a longing to replicate the design enveloped me. Of course, I was only able to do the reproduction on a tight budget, but I did my best nonetheless.
What I took away from the style was to be repetitive with colour, texture and shape. What was done inside, was mirrored outside.
